How can we raise kids with durable faith?

I recently went to see Robin Hood with my fourteen year old son and we were talking about the amazing precision of the archery and the incredible distances the arrows would travel. We recounted the impression of Robin of Lockley pulling that bow back, slowly, deeper, ignoring all distractions, focusing on his target, using all his might to prepare that arrow for its flight, its destination.

When our kids are released into the world, lets make sure we have given them the momentum and the guidance to stike the target of God’s purpose for their lives. As parents we, like noone else, are uniquely positioned to raise kids whose faith will endure, and who will fulfill their destiny. And as I am learning, parenting itself can have its share of exploits and adventures and more than its share of satisfaction.

Is it time for Christians to gather and live together?

As I ponder the deteriorating condition and the direction of the world around us I am conflicted. In me there are two strong motivations.

As a believer I want to change the world, to win souls, to fulfill the great commission. To do this I feel I need to stay plugged into our modern society with all its flaws and risks. But as a husband and dad, I want to provide for and protect my family. In the face of a looming economic collapse and a government that is leaning towards tyranny where economic and religious freedoms are being lost rapidly, I am tempted to retreat from society to a safer place and a simpler life where I am less dependent on the world system.
